As the school year begins, it's hard not to notice the differences that surround us. Teachers struggle to meet the ever-changing individual needs of students, but they're not the only ones who struggle.
It has been said that it is our differences that define us, but they shouldn't divide us. We are all a part of this "human body" and unfortunately many of us suffer from poor body image. We disparage the parts that don't look quite right - not like in the magazines. Popular media hasn't done us any favors when it comes to image.
Right now there's a move towards more respectful speech about differences. It is sad that it has taken a national movement to get people to be kind to one another. But if that's what it takes, then let's spread the word.
I pledge not to use the "R" word. . . how about you?
